Deepening Connections to God & Community

Your generosity helps make stories like Rich Okamoto’s possible. Through ISC retreats, people discover a deeper relationship with God and a community that walks with them on their spiritual journey. In these complex times, your gift provides the stillness, guidance, and spiritual grounding so many are longing for. Your gift creates the space where that transformation can happen.

It costs just $70 to make a retreat possible for one person — offering a quiet place to pause, pray, and listen for God in the midst of daily life.

Right now, your support goes even further. When we reach 100 donations, generous donors will unlock an additional $5,000, helping 72 more people experience the hope and renewal of an ISC retreat.

Thank you for helping us accompany spiritual seekers and deepen the reach of Ignatian spirituality in our community.

What Upcoming Tax Changes Mean for Charitable Giving

By Corinne Bergmann

I recently read an article about the impact of upcoming 2026 tax changes. As your partner in this work, I want to share some information that may affect charitable giving. The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) introduces several updates that take effect on January 1, 2026.

While these changes don’t alter the heart of generosity, they may influence how and when gifts are made. I’m sharing the key changes so you can plan in a way that best aligns with your intentions and financial goals.

1. Tax Benefits for Charitable Gifts Will Decrease in 2026

Starting in 2026, the deduction rate for charitable gifts will decrease slightly—from 37% to 35%.

2. A New Universal Deduction for Cash Gifts

In 2026, you’ll be able to deduct up to $1,000 per individual or $2,000 per couple even if you don’t itemize—if you give directly to the nonprofit, not to a donor-advised fund (DAF).

3. New “Floor” for Itemized Deductions

Those who itemize will only be able to deduct charitable contributions that exceed 0.5% of their adjusted gross income.

4. Planning Ahead Can Help

Many financial advisors are encouraging donors to review their giving plans for the next few years. Some may find it beneficial to make multi-year or planned gifts in 2025 to take advantage of the current tax structure.

5. Non-Cash and Crypto Gifts Still Offer Benefits

Gifts of appreciated assets—such as stock or cryptocurrency—can continue to provide meaningful tax advantages.

Staying Informed Together

Tax changes are always complex. My goal is simply to keep you informed so you can make the decisions that best fit your circumstances.

Please note that I am not a financial advisor or tax specialist. This information is offered only to raise awareness, not as financial advice. I encourage you to consult your financial professional before making any decisions.

Thank you, as always, for the care and generosity you share with our community.
