Praying with the Preferences
Spiritual Formation for Ignatian Leaders
5-week series, Fall 2019
about this program
The Ignatian Spirituality Center will be offering a 5-week series this fall for Ignatian leaders nominated from various regional apostolates who wish to enter more deeply into the journey of renewal offered by the Society of Jesus’ new Universal Apostolic Preferences.
The Preferences are the fruit of a process of discernment by Jesuits and their mission partners that lasted almost two years and culminated with confirmation from Pope Francis in a special meeting with Fr. General Arturo Sosa, SJ. The Preferences give a point of reference to the whole Society of Jesus and their partners and are meant to capture our imaginations, awaken our desires, and unite us in mission. The new Preferences direct us toward four areas vital for our world today:
The Society of Jesus is committed to paying special attention to these Preferences over the next ten years and have invited their mission partners to do the same. We hope this program provides an opportunity for us to enter more deeply into the Jesuits’ Universal Apostolic Preferences, to listen to the Spirit in our local context, and to begin to imagine how we might respond in our own unique way as we embody the preferences in our own lives and communities.
