Each year in Lent, the pews of Seattle University’s Chapel of St. Ignatius and St. Joseph’s Church are filled with Novena participants hungering to find a meaningful connection to God in their everyday circumstances. The quest to live an authentic life of faith implies that there will not only be joy and peace, but also challenges along the way. This year’s Novena theme, Stumbling Into the Heart of Christ, reflects the reality that the journey of discipleship is not always straight and smooth. Sometimes our way to God feels more like a crooked, rocky path on which we often stumble. We invite you to join us this year as we pray for the grace to know, love and follow Jesus, recognizing that though we may stumble, together we are being led into the heart of Christ.
Mary Ann Bigelow is a wife and mother of three adult children. She is a spiritual director with the St. Francis Xavier Parish Retreat Ministry in Missoula, Montana. Rev. Rich Perry, S.J. is pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Missoula, Montana. Before that he taught at Seattle Prep for 28 years. He has been a Jesuit for 54 years and a priest for 41.
