American Saints & Prophets: Will You Respond to Pope Francis’ Call?

When Pope Francis addressed the United States Congress he asked American to look into the personages of Abraham Lincoln, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King and Thomas Merton… Just as us St. James as we explore their contemplative and action filled contributions to society. We will explore in what ways you are being called to serve the church, our nation and the world in the vein of these American  Saints and Prophets.

May 21 | 9:00 AM | Rattlesnake Ledge, I-90 to exit 32

Join Young Adults (20’s & 30’s) for a 2 mile contemplative hike up Rattlesnake Ledge. We will prayerfully read passages from Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter: Laudato Si’ and reflect on our role in creation, the spiritual implications of care for the environment and care for our human family. Along the way we hope you can experience God in creation and joy of a journey with one another.  If you need to car pool please RSVP to theresa@ignatiancenter.org  by Thursday, May 19th and we will meet at St. Joseph’s in Seattle by 8:00 AM to carpool.

Have you ever had your heart sink when you see young adults standing on the corner with a sign asking for change? Have you ever thought that could be me in just two pay checks if I didn’t have family support or good friends? This evening will provide you the opportunity to have a meal with young adults who are also homeless. We hope that through their presence and sharing and your presence and sharing we will encounter God and ourselves in the other. We hope this experience will IgNite a response in your heart to act with compassion and mercy through advocacy and service.

Advent EDoors Year of Mercyvening of Prayer: After Hours

After the Advent Evening of Prayer has concluded, Young Adults will gather in the back of the church and are invited to head over to Liberty Bar (517 – 15th Ave E, 98112) for a social to share your reflections on the evening! Reflect on stories you heard, share your own, and consider in what ways can we open our hearts to mercy.

Advent Evening of prayer will bring in the year of mercy for the IgNite programming. All of next year will be dedicated to themes of mercy. We will be looking at what is mercy? Where do I need to give and receive mercy? What are areas in our world, nation, city, and family in which we can enter with a heart of mercy and compassion?

Our first IgNite program of 2016, January TBA, and will cover refugees, their stories and how we can get involved.

Young Adults (20’s & 30’s) of all faith backgrounds are invited to find God in all things, including sports! Through presentation, conversation, and shared experience, Fr. Patrick Kelly, S.J. will help us to gain an understanding of the person as a unity of body, mind and spirit to provide us with a basis for exploring the spiritual dimensions of the experiences in recreation and sporting activities.

IgNite is honored to have Fr. Patrick Kelly, S.J. facilitate our program. He is a Jesuit priest and Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Seattle University. Growing up he played many sports including football at Grand Valley State University, MI. He was a consultant for the John Paul II Foundation for Sport and last May he was a member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity called “Coaches: Educating People.” He has recently edited a new book, titled Youth Sport and Spirituality: Catholic Perspectives (University of Notre Dame Press, 2015).
